Two more San Diego breweries down

Visited two more breweries and a tasting room in my quest to visit all 66 San Diego breweries. First up was Intergalactic Brewing. Alex had some nice beers on tap. The unique beer I liked was the Smoked Ale. Great job for a one man show!
Next up was the Poor House Brewing on 30th St. The beer is served in mason jars. Not bad beer, more like a neighborhood bar than a brewery. Nice touch with free pretzels and peanuts on request.
Then just down the street is the Belching Beaver tasting room. The beer was good with a nice selection. See the picture for more details.

PQ Homebrewers

Anybody interested in forming a homebrew club in Rancho Penasquitos/Carmel Mountain Ranch/4s Ranch in the San Diego area? My idea is a small club or 4 or 5 brewers where we can alternate at each others house and share recipes, techniques and of course drink some beer!!!! E-mail me at Mark.Hazelwood@aol.com if interested.

All Grain Brewing Cost

Just brewed a CitraSim Imperial IPA and I wanted to show the cost of brewing an all-grain batch

  • 12 lbs of 2 row @ $.90/lb = $10.80
  • .75 lb of Crystal 40L @ $1.89/lb = $1.42
  • .50 lb of Carapils @ $1.89/lb = $.95
  • 1.5 lbs of Trader Joe's Turbinado sugar = $3.49
  • 2 oz of Citra hops = $3.95
  • 2 oz of Simcoe hops =$3.95
  • 1 package of US-05 dry yeast = $4.50
Total = $29.06

So 5 gals of beer for ingredient cost of $29.06, not a bad deal. Ballast Point brewery sells their basic beers for $70 for a 5-gal keg.

Quest for All San Diego Breweries

Hit two more San Diego breweries, Rip Current and Prohibition breweries. Will definitely be going back to each of these breweries. Rip Current had 11 beers on tap. Four were Porter or Stout. Prohibition had 6 of their own beers on tap. The food here smelled great. I will have to come back again to try the food.
